LaSalle Park residents and recreation director, Angela, enjoyed an afternoon of baking shortbread cookies to celebrate the Scottish Culture around a celebration for Robbie Burns. Take a look below for a captured moment and scroll for some fun facts on Shortbread Cookies and our recipe!
- The amount of butter is what makes shortbread…short. The term ‘short’ when applied to any baked treat means crumbly, like a shortcrust pastry should be.
- Shortbread originated in Scotland, with the first printed recipe, in 1736, from a Scotswoman named Mrs McLintock.
- National Shortbread Day, yes there is such a thing, is celebrated on January 6th worldwide!
- Scotland is still known as the home of shortbread, and Walkers have been making The World’s Finest Shortbread for over 100 years!
