Baking a Scottish Favourite: Shortbread Cookies

January 25, 2020

LaSalle Park residents and recreation director, Angela, enjoyed an afternoon of baking shortbread cookies to celebrate the Scottish Culture around a celebration for Robbie Burns. Take a look below for a captured moment and scroll for some fun facts on Shortbread Cookies and our recipe!

  1. The amount of butter is what makes shortbread…short. The term ‘short’ when applied to any baked treat means crumbly, like a shortcrust pastry should be.
  2. Shortbread originated in Scotland, with the first printed recipe, in 1736, from a Scotswoman named Mrs McLintock.
  3. National Shortbread Day, yes there is such a thing, is celebrated on January 6th worldwide!
  4. Scotland is still known as the home of shortbread, and Walkers have been making The World’s Finest Shortbread for over 100 years!
