For over two years now, LaSalle Park Retirement Community has been making wishes come true for our residents. This initiative has grown beyond our imagination from a concept that was originally inspired by the idea of checking items off your bucket list …we call this our Living List.
On November 2nd, we granted one of the most exciting Living List wishes to date. Betty Barlett, who is 96 years old, had a wish to meet the Canadian Prime Minister. She flew to Ottawa which was an experience in itself as she had not flown in years. The pilot was touched to hear about Betty’s Living List wish and even announced it before landing in Ottawa.
Things just kept getting better from there with a tour of Parliament Hill and the highlight, of course, was a one-on-one meeting with Justin Trudeau. Betty shared a scrapbook with Justin that she had collected over the years with newspaper clippings of his father, Pierre Trudeau. This will be an experience that Betty will cherish forever and she continues to relive the special moment as she shares her experience with other LaSalle Park Retirement Community residents.
Not only did she meet Justin Trudeau, but she also had the opportunity to spend time in the MP Lounge meeting many members of the House of Commons as well as Speaker of the House. The biggest surprise was being invited to attend a special reception with over 200 Canadian Olympians.
